1. Ardi, could you share a pivotal moment from your own professional journey where you witnessed the power of inspiring change and innovation in the business community?

Reflecting on my experience as a banking supervision analyst at the European Central Bank, a particularly pivotal moment that showcased the power of innovation occurred when I co-led the development of a benchmarking model. This model was designed to meticulously track and assess the investment portfolios of significant banks under our review, representing a substantial value in profit and loss terms.

The creation and implementation of this model marked a significant departure from traditional methods. It required not only technical readjustments but also the ability to communicate complex financial concepts across diverse stakeholder groups. The success of this initiative depended on aligning various interpretations and expectations, which was achieved through a series of strategic discussions and presentations.

The endeavour was challenging, given the complexity of the portfolios and the varying degrees of financial understanding among different audiences. However, the real triumph was witnessing the change it inspired. The project not only enhanced our monitoring capabilities but also set a new standard for transparency and accountability in the banking sector. This initiative underscored the critical role of innovative thinking in transforming business practices and solidified my commitment to driving progressive change within the global financial community.

2. As a leader in Kosovo's business sector, how do you envision your role in inspiring positive change and fostering innovation? What is your vision for the future?

As a leader in Kosovo's business sector, my vision is focused around inspiring a wave of innovation and fostering a mindset of positive change. Drawing on my extensive experience in international finance, I see myself playing a pivotal role in shaping the future of Kosovo's business landscape. My goal is to cultivate an environment where innovation and entrepreneurial spirit are not just encouraged but are the driving forces behind business strategies. I plan to leverage cutting-edge technologies and sustainable practices to improve local industries, setting a new standard for business operations in Kosovo. One of my key objectives is to establish platforms that facilitate knowledge exchange and foster collaborative efforts both within Kosovo and on an international scale. By creating these networks, I hope to elevate Kosovo's presence in the global European market, showcasing its potential as a hub of innovation and business excellence.

The youth of Kosovo, being part of the youngest population in Europe, represent an untapped wellspring of dynamic and innovative thinking. My vision includes empowering these young minds, providing them with the tools, resources, and guidance they need to become the next generation of entrepreneurs and business leaders. This empowerment is not just about nurturing individual talent but also about contributing to the overall economic growth and resilience of the business environment in Kosovo.

In the future, I see a Kosovo that is not only thriving economically but also leading in innovation and sustainability. It's a vision where the country leverages its unique position and youthful energy to make significant contributions to the global business community. By fostering a culture of continuous learning, adaptability, and strategic risk-taking, I believe we can transform Kosovo into a beacon of entrepreneurial success and innovation.

 3. Reflecting on your experiences, can you share a specific challenge you faced in driving innovation, and how you overcame it? What lessons did you learn from that experience?

I encountered a significant challenge in driving innovation within the well-established processes of a company. The task at hand was to implement new innovative tools, a change that was necessary but initially met with resistance. The primary obstacle was convincing my colleagues that these changes were beneficial. It was a complex task, as people often feel comfortable with existing processes and are hesitant to adopt new methods, particularly in a setting where traditions and established methods held strong sway. To overcome this challenge, I focused on demonstrating the tangible benefits of the new tools. This involved presenting clear, data-backed evidence of how these innovations could enhance efficiency, reduce errors, and ultimately contribute to better outcomes for the team and the organization. I also realized the importance of open communication and addressing concerns head-on, providing a platform for my colleagues to voice their apprehensions and questions. One of the key strategies was to start small, implementing the tools in phases, allowing the team to gradually adapt to the changes. This phased approach helped in easing the transition and provided proof of concept at each stage, which slowly built confidence among the team members. The biggest lesson I learned from this experience is that innovation is not just about introducing new tools or processes; it's equally about people and their mindset. Successful innovation requires a sense of a common goal and strong leadership to ensure everyone is involved and committed to the change. It's about building trust and demonstrating value, making sure that the team understands not just the 'how' but also the 'why' behind the innovation. This challenging experience was instrumental in shaping my approach to leadership and change management, emphasizing the importance of empathy, effective communication, and a gradual, inclusive approach to implementing new ideas in a traditional setting.

4. Are there mentors or leaders who have inspired and guided you in your efforts to bring about positive change and innovation? How have they influenced your approach?

In my journey towards fostering positive change and innovation, there are several leaders who have profoundly influenced my approach. Firstly, I pay homage to Jacques Delors who recently passed away. He was a former President of the European Commission, and a visionary French political figure. His innovative thinking in shaping Europe has always inspired me. His efforts in integrating communities and building a European identity resonate deeply with my own aspirations and career trajectory. Delors' pioneering vision and contribution towards creating a dynamic European environment have been a guiding light in my professional life.

Another figure who significantly influences my approach to innovation is Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple. I am not just impressed by his exceptional managerial skills, which have positioned him as the most financially successful CEO in history, but also by his ability to sustain and evolve Apple’s legacy. Cook's knack for merging technology with design and consistently introducing products that lead market trends showcases a leadership style that is both innovative and forward-thinking. His management of expectations and pressures, especially following in the footsteps of Steve Jobs, is a testament to his leadership and strategic foresight.

Closer to my field, I am also inspired by Christine Lagarde, the President of the European Central Bank. Since assuming her role, she has been a proponent of innovation and collaboration, which are crucial in the rapidly evolving European financial market. Her leadership style, especially her emphasis on innovation in the banking sector, aligns closely with my own professional values and goals. Lagarde's approach to managing a key financial institution in times of change has provided me with valuable insights and inspiration for my own career in finance.

These leaders, each in their unique way, have shaped my perspective on innovation, leadership, and the importance of adapting to change. Their influence extends beyond their professional accomplishments; it lies in their ability to inspire and drive transformation in their respective fields. Their examples continue to guide my efforts in bringing about positive change and innovation in my endeavours.

5. In your view, how can collaboration across different sectors and industries in Kosovo amplify the impact of innovative practices? Can you share any collaborative efforts that stand out?

Enhancing the synergy between different sectors and industries in Kosovo can significantly amplify the impact of innovative practices. This kind of collaboration brings together varied expertise, resources, and perspectives, fostering a holistic approach to tackling complex challenges and cultivating a thriving innovation ecosystem.

One standout example of this in Kosovo is the concerted effort between academia, the private sector, and government bodies to bolster the start-up and entrepreneurial ecosystem. This collaborative model involves academic institutions contributing research and a pipeline of skilled talent, businesses offering practical industry insights and market access, and government agencies providing an enabling regulatory framework.

Such collaborative efforts have been instrumental in the development of start-up incubation and acceleration programs. These programs serve as vital platforms for aspiring entrepreneurs, equipping them with the necessary tools, mentorship, and resources to transform their innovative ideas into viable businesses. By fostering these synergies, we're able to create a supportive environment where innovation can flourish, driving economic growth and positioning Kosovo as a hub for entrepreneurship and technological advancement.

In my experience, being part of initiatives that bridge the gap between different sectors has been incredibly rewarding. It's clear that when academia, industry, and government align their efforts, the potential for meaningful and sustainable innovation increases exponentially. This multidisciplinary approach not only addresses immediate business challenges but also lays the groundwork for long-term economic and social development in Kosovo.

6. Given the rapid advancements in technology, how do you see the role of technology in inspiring change and innovation within businesses in Kosovo? Are there specific tech-driven initiatives you find particularly inspiring?

The rapid advancements in technology are fundamentally reshaping the business landscape in Kosovo, serving as a catalyst for change and innovation.  One particularly transformative aspect is the growing adoption of digital tools, cloud computing solutions, and e-commerce platforms. These technological advancements level the playing field, enabling Kosovan businesses to compete more effectively in the global marketplace.

A tech-driven initiative that stands out as particularly inspiring in Kosovo involves the development of digital platforms aimed at connecting local producers with international markets. These platforms do more than just create new revenue opportunities; they also serve as a gateway for global exposure of Kosovan products and services. Such initiatives not only promote economic growth but also enhance Kosovo's reputation in the international business community.

Moreover, the integration of technology into educational and training programs, focusing on digital literacy and tech entrepreneurship, is crucial. By fostering a workforce adept in technology, Kosovo can accelerate its journey towards a more innovative and economically robust future.

These initiatives showcase the pivotal role of technology in not only driving immediate business success but also in laying the foundation for long-term economic development and innovation in Kosovo.

7. What advice would you give to emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in Kosovo who aspire to inspire change and drive innovation in the business community?

To emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in Kosovo, I advise embracing a mindset of continuous learning and adaptability. Stay informed about global trends and local market needs, fostering innovation that addresses real-world challenges. Build a strong network, both locally and internationally, to gain diverse perspectives and opportunities. Prioritize ethical practices and sustainable business models. Embrace failures as learning experiences and be resilient in the face of obstacles. Finally, remember the power of collaboration, working together can often lead to more impactful and sustainable solutions in the business community.

8. What are your future plans? Is there a specific project that you are working on that you would like to share?

My future aspirations are centred around sharping my impact within the financial sector, particularly in strengthening the stability and resilience of the European Union’s banking system. I am currently immersed in a significant project at the European Central Bank, which focuses on enhancing banking supervision mechanisms. This initiative aligns seamlessly with my expertise in finance and my deep-seated passion for ensuring financial stability and governance. It's a challenging yet rewarding endeavour that stands at the intersection of my professional skills and personal commitment to financial integrity.

In addition to my professional pursuits, I am equally dedicated to contributing to community development through active involvement in various NGO initiatives. These efforts are geared towards promoting sustainable financial practices and fostering educational programs aimed at economic empowerment. My goal is to enhance financial literacy and economic growth at the local level, thereby contributing to the broader societal welfare.

This dual focus - of influencing the financial sector while also engaging in community upliftment - exemplifies my holistic approach to leadership. I believe in the power of leveraging my professional experiences to benefit not only the industry but also the community at large. By integrating my work in finance with my passion for community development, I aim to create a synergistic impact that transcends traditional professional boundaries.

Looking ahead, I am excited about the potential of these initiatives to drive substantial change. The project at the ECB offers an opportunity to contribute to the stability of the European financial landscape significantly. Simultaneously, my engagement with NGOs allows me to address critical socio-economic challenges at a grassroots level. Together, these endeavours represent my commitment to fostering a stable, prosperous, and equitable future.
